RU-N Student Rubin Taylor Uses Family Tragedy to Help Others

Rutgers University | Rubin Taylor grew up in a troubled family in Plainfield, NJ, weathering divorce and child sexual abuse before a court stepped in and fostered him with a strict but loving Amish family in Pennsylvania. As an adult Taylor served in the military, held jobs and briefly attended college but, haunted by his traumatic past, was incarcerated twice before getting the help he needed to turn his life around and begin helping others at a Newark social services organization. With the support of Veterans benefits, Taylor returned to community college at age 63 and earned an associate’s degree in Social Work, and is now a first-year student at Rutgers-Newark, working toward his B.A. in Psychology so he can continue to counsel others in need.
